Right Click here to download the Italian Restaurant Sample

When prompted, choose "Save to disk" and select a location on you computer where you want this backup saved. Once the download is complete, close SELLmatix Control and in SELLmatix POS:-

  1. Switch to Menu Mode
  2. On the File Menu choose Restore to restore the downloaded file as if it was a data backup
  3. On the File Menu choose Rebuild Databases
  4. On the File Menu choose Rebuild Indexes
  5. Close SELLmatix POS
Repeat this step for each POS machine on which you want to run this sample.

On the machine that will run SELLmatix Control:-

  • Repeat steps 2 - 4 as on the POS machines
  • If you are running POS and Control on the same computer, POS and Control must have different data directories.
  • In Connection Manager edit the terminals so that the names or IP addresses for the POS terminals are correct for your installation, and flag all files to be re-sent.
Restart SELLmatix Control and then run SELLmatix POS on each of the POS terminals, checking that connection manager is able to connect and send all the files to each terminal before experimenting with the sample.

Description
This is a sample of average complexity that is based on the actual implementation of SELLmatix in an Award Winning Italian owned and operated restaurant in Thailand.

This sample features:-

  • A fairly extensive menu and wine list.
  • Menu items (eg. Seafood) which are sold by weight so that the customer can choose portion size.
  • Implementation of an automatically calculated Service Charge.
  • Separate Bar and kitchen Printers.
  • Stock Maintenance with automatically generated alerts when beverage stocks fall below the reorder level so that staff can be sent out to replenish stock.
Comments
This sample displays some of the text on the buttons in Thai. If you do not have Thai language packs installed some of this text will not display correctly.

You can install these languages in Control Panel->Regional and Language Options and checking the options for:-

  • Install files for complex script and right to left languages (including Thai)
  • Install files for East Asian languages
It is not necessary to install Thai language keyboard support to view this sample correctly.

This restaurant caters mainly for tourists. Menus are printed in English/Italian, and the Thai waiters and kitchen staff understand enough English to know what the menu selections are. For an example of full multi language integration please refer to the Pub/Restaurant Sample.

We do not like the layout of the buttons in this sample. To us, the mixture of colors on each page looks messy and it is not obvious which screen you are on based on the predominant color. But that is the way the site wants it. Form your own opinion about how you want your screens to appear.

Low Stock Warnings
This site implements low stock warnings. For many stock items such as bottled beers, they keep relatively little stock on hand, and if they run low they can send out a staff member to replenish stock which only takes them about 5 minutes.

To illustrate how this works, look at PLU 6204 which is Singha Beer. If you go to the Edit Product Screen in Control for this item on the Buying Info Tab, you will see that the reorder level is 12. On the Stock Info Tab, the Qty on Hand shows 8. Make sure that you close the Edit Product Window before proceeding further.

If you enter an order for a Singha Beer in POS and then Process the Order, the main Control Window will Flash, and a tune is played. Looking at the Connection Manager window, just above the clickable buttons it shows "Stock Low for Singha".

Now if you go back to the Edit Product Screen for Singha, you will see that in the Stock Info Tab, it shows 8 in stock (the order has not yet been paid for), but the Qty Alloc'd shows 1. This means that one bottle has been taken from stock and is at a table, but not yet paid for. The available stock is therefore 7. Since this is less that the reorder level of 12, the low stock warning has been generated.

At this time, if you went to the Print->Print Reorder Report in Control, Singha would be shown as one of the items that need to be resupplied.

Once this sale is retrieved by a POS terminal and the sale is finalised (paid for) the Qty Alloc'd is decremented, as is the Qty on Hand.

You can turn off stock warnings in Control->General Settings as well as specify the type of warning generated.

This feature is particularly useful, because it warns you based on the available stock. Some other systems will generate stock reorder warnings, but only after the stock has been paid for and finalised. That is OK the next morning when you are re-stocking, but SELLmatix allows you to do this while trading so that sales are not lost.

Automatic Service Charge
This example also features an automatic Service Charge of 10% which is added when the account is printed. Try the following sequence:-

Enter an order, say for table 3. Click the Process Order button so that the order is sent to Control and the orders are printed on the various kitchen and bar printers.

Click 3 followed by Print Account in the POS.

You will notice that a 10% Service Charge has been added to the printed bill that is taken to the customer for payment.

This is a little tricky to set up, and if you need to use this feature, you may want to post a question to the Forum. Briefly, the steps involved are as follows:-

PLU number 99000 is set up with a description of Service Charge and the Product Type is "Total % Adjust". This product belongs to the Service Charge Department (in this case Dept 990)

  • In the "SELLmatix Control.cfg" configuration file three lines appear in the [System] section as follows:-
    • PrtAcctEvent=22
This line must always be exactly as in the example.
    • PrtAcctData=10
This line specifies the percentage service charge to be applied. If you wanted a 15% service charge to apply then you would change this to "15".
    • PrtAcctEvData=99000
This line specifies that the "product number" to process is 99000. If you used a different PLU number this line should be changed to match.
These lines in the configuration file tell Control to perform a particular processing sequence immediately before printing an account, and provide information about the event to process that might otherwise be keyed by the operator.
  • This feature is very useful for sites where service charges are used since it does not rely on the operator remembering to enter the service charge before printing the account, and it speeds processing significantly.
