Overview
SELLmatix PocketPos runs on a Pocket PC and is designed to be used by waiters in a restaurant to enter orders from customers which are then sent by WiFi network connection to SELLmatix Control. Control prints the orders on the various kitchen or bar printers eliminating the need for the waiters to take the orders to the kitchen or bar, and resulting in improved service to customers.

Unlike SELLmatix POS which runs on a normal computer connected to a range of devices such as barcode scanners, cash drawers, printers and pole displays, PocketPos which runs on a handheld Pocket PC does not directly connect to such devices, but only to SELLmatix Control via a wireless network connection.

As a result, some of the functions that are typically required on a normal Point of Sale are not applicable to PocketPos. For example, While PocketPos can have customer checks printed by SELLmatix Control, after the bill is presented to the customer and the waiter presented with a credit card or other form of payment, the waiter takes the payment to a normal SELLmatix POS terminal and processes the payment on the normal POS terminal so that proper financial controls can be applied and the till balancing maintained. Waiters do not process payments on PocketPos.

Sequence of operation
In most cases in a restaurant, customers would order on a number of separate occasions, and each time that happens the orders would be printed on the various kitchen or bar printers and the value of what they ordered would be added to their account.

With PocketPos, processing the order simply mean selecting the items from the menu, specifying the Location (table) number and then choosing the "Process Order" menu option. It is a very simple and fast operation.

One of the key benefits of PocketPos over other handheld ordering systems is the simplicity of operation. Other systems require complicated navigation through screens of icons which often don't resemble the product being sold and hence are difficult to understand.

PocketPos on the other hand uses the most simple and universally understood icons of all... Text descriptions on the Menu. Text and the characters in the text is, after all, just a set of universally understood icons. The word "Lasagna" is understood by even a five year old child. A graphic image of what Lasagna looks like, using the very limited resolution on the display of a Pocket PC, can easily be misunderstood.

Another key advantage of PocketPos is that when items on the menu change, nothing needs to be done on the Pocket PC to reconfigure. SELLmatix Control automatically sends changes to PocketPos, and the menu is rebuilt automatically when required. Updating the display on other systems can take a considerable amount of time and work.
