Select or Create Company
Select Config Option

SELLmatix Control is able to use a number of different configurations (companies). This can be useful when experimenting with how to perform a particular task, without making errors in your real data. It can also be useful when training staff because it allows you to make changes and see the effect without changing your real data.

SELLmatix Control uses a number of data files which are stored in a directory on a machine. The name of the directory in use is shown in the title bar of SELLmatix Control. If you want to experiment with something, you can copy your current data to another directory for testing.

Open an Existing Configuration Opens an existing SELLmatix Control Company which is already configured on the system.

Start a New Company Creates a new "sample" or blank company to work with.

Use System Default

Depending on the option selected you may be prompted to select the location on your system, and/or the backup file you wish to restore. After these options are selected, you will be able to set the usage options for the new/restored configuration as follows.

Open Company Options Dialog

Activate this company now

Backup Data and Graphics
This option creates a backup file containing all the data in the active SELLmatix Company. This option also backs up graphics such as logos which are used on receipts, invoices and clerk cards. These graphics change rarely, and so do not need to be backed up every time a backup is performed.

Even though this option appears in SELLmatix POS, you would not normally backup data in SELLmatix POS because the back office controller would contains the master copy of POS data, and provided that regular updates are performed between POS and Control there is no need to made a separate backup in POS.

SELLmatix Backups are standard .zip files which can be unpacked with a utility such as WinZip. The backup does not include indexes which are used to find data quickly but do not contain unique data. Indexes are re-created when files are restored, or when the Rebuild Index option is used.

Backup Data without Graphics
This option creates a backup file containing all the data in the active SELLmatix Company except for graphics. These graphics change rarely, and so do not need to be backed up every time a backup is performed, and so the backup created using this option is smaller.

Restore from Backup
This option restores data from a SELLmatix backup, and then rebuilds the indexes used by SELLmatix. As an alternative you could unzip the backup using WinZip or another Zip File utility, and rebuild the indexes from the menu.

If the backup did not contain graphics, you will need to restore the graphics files manually.

Rebuild Databases
This option would normally be used when upgrading SELLmatix to a later version. This function updates the structure of the databases so that they match the latest versions of the data files.

This option may also be able to repair corrupted data files if they have been corrupted due to power failure or some other problem. This however cannot be guaranteed and you should always keep up to date backups of your data files.

Rebuild Indexes
This option is automatically used when files are restored from backup. It can also be used to recreate the indexes if a problem occurs, however this would not normally occur.
